In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Steve Ballmer from Microsoft spoke to Nick Wingfield about the iPhone this Thursday. This is probably the first time that he has acknowledged that this phone exists. Ballmer has been giving off interviews in the media promoting the launch of Windows 7.
Initially Ballmer refused to acknowledge the iPhone’s existence in the market and the popularity it had been gaining. However the iPhone does not still impress him all that much. With accordance to iPhone’s presence in the market, Ballmer had quoted “It’s another competitor in the market. The number one in Smartphone’s is Nokia.”
Ballmer praised the Windows run mobile phone, contrary to many who believe that they have had several bad reviews, also because of the presence of Google’s Android platform.
When he was questioned about the Apple Apps Store, he only gave a nod of agreement but continued to disagree with it, he said, “It’s a good thing that they they’ve done, lets show respect where respect is due. Yet it’s not turning the market on fire.”
“Turning the market on fire”? Now what did Ballmer mean by that? Especially when Apple has announced that they will now have 85,000 applications available to download while for the fourth quarter there will be half a billion downloads.
Ballmer has never failed to keep his thoughts to himself. Infact he goes on saying that the company itself was falling way behind Google and iPhone. An attendant at the Venture Capitalist sent a tweet saying that they “screwed up with Windows Mobile.”
